Choosing a date for your outdoor elopement falls largely upon your availability.
But there are other creative approaches to determining when you will say “I do” that go beyond the logistics.
Today we are sharing creative ideas on how to pick your elopement date!
How do you want to feel during your elopement and what do you want to see? Make sure to choose a season that you and your partner feel comfortable in if you will be eloping outdoors. Consider the temperature of the area during that time of year and make sure to research or ask your planner about what to expect before choosing your date.
In our area (Asheville, NC) this is the seasonal breakdown of what to expect.
Summer in the mountains is a really fantastic time to marry. It is not quite as popular as autumn since everyone wants to see the fall foliage but in summer the landscape is filled with green plants and everything is alive and thriving.
The weather is also ideal in the mountains due to colder air in the higher elevation so you won’t be hot at all!

Spring is becoming more popular all of the time. It’s a nice time to gaze out into mountain ranges as oftentimes, the green foliage hasn’t fully blossomed yet and that makes it easier to see the sights at many locations.
The weather is still unpredictable and might still be a bit chilly as winter hasn’t fully said goodbye just yet.
Fall is of course super stunning in the Blue Ridge Mountains because of the red, orange, and yellow colors that emerge. The weather can be really comfortable but it will get quite chilly as the sun dips below the horizon.
It is a busy time on the trails as people visit Asheville from all over the country, so expect to see people out and about and possibly another wedding or two.
The great thing is that we always find an awesome spot for your ceremony that keeps people out of the background and once your ceremony begins, you’ll be lost in the words of the officiant and your partner.
Winter is of course chilly and the Blue Ridge Parkway is closed so that limits some of the spots to elope. This is a great time to elope at a waterfall where it is also somewhat warmer than a mountain spot or other mountain lookout spots that are not on the parkway, which our coordinator Cassie can help you with!
Just make sure to bring a jacket and warm gear for your walk up and down the mountain or to keep you warm at your outdoor location.
It gets quite cold as the sun goes down, so make sure that is something you are okay with!

Some of our favorite themed elopements have involved the Full Moon. If you are able to schedule your elopement when the moon is full and bright, you’ll get to experience the power and influence that comes along with it.
Not only did the ancient Greeks believe that marriages consummated during the full Moon were the most prosperous and happiest, but when the moon is fully illuminated, the lunar yin energy becomes balanced with the sun’s yang energy.
Yang energy is aggression, force, speed and domination, just as the sun’s energy is a hot and thermal, a radiating force.
Yin energy is soft, more receptive, slow and yielding just as the moon’s energy is cooler than the sun’s, literally reflecting its light.
When you get married under the full moon, you experience a balance of the yin and yang energy into your union. Your marriage will be one of harmony and balance, with equal parts give and take.
Supermoons are also a great time to elope! Supermoons bring about healing and positive change and are the perfect time to start a new life together.

Want to get married on your birthday? What about New Years Day or Valentine’s Day?
Though it’s not recommended to have a big wedding on holidays (due to various reasons like family and friends being unavailable to attend) sometimes eloping on a low-key holiday is actually a great plan.
Some holidays like Valentines Day are perfect for eloping as this day doesn’t typically involve large family gatherings or commitments, so you won’t miss out on anything in your social calendar.
Holiday themed elopements can be fun, especially if they are meaningful to you.
Here’s a few we can picture in the Blue Ridge Mountains:
Valentine’s Day
Summer Solstice (the longest day of the year)
Halloween (think foggy forests or orang and red foliage depending on the weather)
New Year’s Eve or Day
And here are some creative days to consider:
Word to the wise, eloping during the mid-week is highly recommended, especially if you are eloping outdoors in nature.
On the weekends, there are more people off and out and about in nature exploring and hiking the trails.
If you choose to elope on a weekday, it will be less busy and vendors will be more available to provide their services at elopement prices since it doesn’t compete with bigger weddings that tend to book out months or years in advance.
Instead of paying a large, premium rate to reserve a weekend date in advance, with eloping you can make your decision and reservations months or in some cases, even weeks before the date.
So whatever date you choose, keep in mind that a weekday will most likely be your best bet for securing all the vendors and creatives you need at a lower price.
Are you a numbers person? Do you like math or have favorite numbers you look for everywhere? Do you study numerology or always see certain numbers you associate with good luck or spirituality like 11:11, 333, etc?
If so, maybe choosing the date because of the numbers is the way to go!
You can select a date which includes your favorite number or choose a number based on their meaning.
For example, the number two represents duality, the decisions we make, and how we see others.
Some couples choose dates that are palindromes, like Molly & Kelvin who happened to elope on 12-21-21.
Palindrome elopement dates read the same forward and backward. Many people believe that the symmetry of the date can bring good fortune and can aid people in making big decisions or changes in their life.

Here are some interesting number sequences coming up to consider from your elopement.
Friday, February 3, 2023 to give you a 2-3-23 date
Saturday, February 4, 2024 to give you a 2-4-24 date
The years 2022 through 2024 also have palindrome dates, which repeat themselves both backwards and forwards:
3-20-2023 (Monday)
3-23-23 (Thursday)
4-20-2024 (Saturday)
4-24-24 (Wednesday)
Choosing your elopement date to align with your zodiac signs can make your special day align with your selves in a deeper way.
Sagittarius tends to prefer warm weather or at least a warm honeymoon.
Libras gravitate toward the elegance of an early fall celebration.
A Taurus might enjoy eloping in peak spring, during their birth month.
