When couples compare Asheville elopement packages, they usually look for the big things first.

Photography. An officiant. Planning. Flowers. Cake. Maybe videography.

But one of the most valuable parts of the Elope Outdoors experience is something couples don’t always realize they’ll need until their actual wedding day arrives:

Another person who is simply there to help.

Every Elope Outdoors elopement includes a dedicated elopement assistant as part of your team.

Our current assistants, Kalie and Erin, are there to help all the little pieces come together so you can actually enjoy your day instead of worrying about who is carrying the flowers, where the cake needs to go, whether your dress is caught on a branch or what everyone is supposed to be doing next.

It may not sound like the most glamorous thing on an elopement package list.

But once you’re standing on the side of a mountain in wedding clothes, you’ll understand. 🙂

So, What Does an Elopement Assistant Actually Do?

The short answer?

A little bit of everything.

An outdoor elopement doesn’t have the same infrastructure as a traditional wedding venue. There isn’t necessarily a bridal suite, banquet staff, venue coordinator or table where you can leave everything.

Sometimes we’re hiking.

Sometimes we’re at a waterfall.

Sometimes we’re changing into a wedding dress in the middle of the mountains.

Sometimes there are kids, parents or dogs joining us.

And sometimes Mother Nature decides she has her own plans for the day.

Your assistant is that extra set of capable hands helping everything flow behind the scenes.

Depending on your elopement, that might mean helping carry items to the ceremony location, picking up and transporting details, helping with your dress or boutonniere, smoothing flyaways, organizing guests, holding a bouquet, setting up a picnic, helping with your dog, grabbing an umbrella or simply making sure everyone knows where they’re going.

It’s a hundred tiny things that you shouldn’t have to think about on your wedding day.

It Lets Your Photographer Actually Be Your Photographer

This is a big one.

When an elopement company doesn’t have dedicated day of support, many of those little responsibilities naturally fall to the photographer.

And our photographers are incredibly helpful humans. They’re always going to fix your dress or grab something when you need them.

But we’d rather have your photographer doing what you hired them to do:

watching the light, watching you and capturing what’s happening.

While your photographer is preparing gear, scouting the best angle, photographing details or capturing a moment between the two of you, your assistant can be helping with everything happening outside the frame.

That separation of roles is intentional.

It’s part of how we create an experience that feels relaxed while still keeping everything moving.

Someone Is Taking Care of the Details

If your Elope Outdoors collection includes flowers, cake or a picnic, there are actual logistics behind making those beautiful things magically appear on a mountain.

Someone has to get them there.

Someone needs to make sure the flowers look beautiful.

Someone needs to protect the cake on the drive.

Someone needs to carry everything.

Someone needs to set things up.

And someone eventually needs to pack it all back up.

That someone should not be you.

Your assistant helps take care of those behind the scenes details so you can walk into the experience and enjoy them.

A dog decides they’re suddenly the star of the ceremony.

We bring backup items like umbrellas when they’re needed and work together as a team when plans shift.

Your Assistant Can Help You Get Ready Too

For some elopements, getting dressed isn’t happening in a hotel room five minutes away.

If you’re using our changing tent or getting ready near your ceremony location, your assistant can help make the process considerably easier.

They can help with your dress, shoes, jewelry and other details and make sure everything is ready before you step out for your first look or ceremony.

There’s something really comforting about having another woman there who knows what needs to happen and can simply say, “I’ve got it.”

And if you have a charm, heirloom or another meaningful detail that needs to be added to your bouquet or attire, we’re happy to help with those little things too.

They Help Your Guests Feel Taken Care of

Our elopements are intimate, but intimate doesn’t always mean just two people.

Parents may be joining you.

Your children may be part of the ceremony.

You might bring your dog.

You may have a handful of your favorite people along for the adventure.

Your assistant can help everyone know where to go and what’s happening so you don’t become the person coordinating your own wedding while you’re trying to get married.

That’s especially helpful when children are involved or when family members aren’t accustomed to hiking or outdoor locations.

The goal isn’t to make the day feel overly managed.

Kalie and Erin become part helper, part coordinator, part dress fluffer, part picnic setter upper, part problem solver and occasionally part dog wrangler.
