Spring is a mesmerizing reawakening of nature. In Asheville, we watch our mountain landscape slowly become dotted with greenery while flowers start to bloom. It’s an ideal time to be in the Blue Ridge Mountains and have a spring elopement outdoors.

“Spring is perhaps the most glorious season for flowers – with peonies, ranunculus, anemone, foxglove, campanula and so many more exploding into bloom!

Many spring brides opt for a romantic, colorful spring palette, filled with blush, soft peach, pink, and pops of coral.

In our boutique floral design studio, we are noticing that many brides are opting for a less stringent approach to wedding flowers; they have a few ideas about a color palette, and then leave the specifics of flowers up to us to choose the very best of what is blooming during a particular season,” Niki said.

 

2. Elope on Significant Spring Dates!

How cool would it be to have a Spring Equinox themed elopement honoring the increasing daylight hours and warming temperatures? Or a May Day elopement celebrating the rebirth of spring while celebrating your marriage?

4. Best Spring Colors 

When it comes to choosing color schemes for your Spring 2022 Elopement, pastels and cheerful colors come to mind immediately. One idea is to look at what is in bloom in spring and incorporate what you see by choosing a pink, blue, yellow or green palette.

Consider your elopement backdrop and how your colors will fit in without blending in too much with the background. For example if you are marrying in a spot with a lot of green grass or greenery, a green suit would likely blend in too much, but could look better against blue mountains and a rocky ground.

Some things only happen in spring! There are many spring events and festivals that make it extra worth it to travel to our mountain town. Planning your elopement in spring means you may be able to enjoy activities that are already taking place in the AVL at this time.

7. Choose The Best Spring Date For You Based on Expected Weather

We all know that weather is unpredictable, so anytime you elope outdoors it’s up to the “weather gods”, and we all cross our fingers for ideal temperatures!

Spring starts off a bit chilly and the weather slowly becomes more ideal as the season progresses, although there is an increased chance of rain once May hits.

In general, eloping during spring means that there is a likelihood of less people being on the trails, as many await warmer weather before heading outdoors. This presents a possible benefit to eloping in the spring versus other times of year.

Monthly Breakdown of Foliage & Weather – Spring in Asheville

March:

The average temperature is 45 degrees with a high of 56. Up in the mountains, the average temperature will likely be closer to 35 degrees. This may dissuade some couples from choosing to elope in the mountains at this time, meaning you will increase your chances of hitting the elopement jackpot of having the mountaintop to yourself! Either way, if you’re up for adventuring, bring a fur or shawl to cover up, a warm jacket to have on hand, as well as warm hiking boots! A hot chocolate or a drink to warm up doesn’t hurt either – so bring those too if you want!

Enjoy a more open canopy as the leaves on the trees are just budding. This means that many of the mountain views may be obstructed by trees at other times of year are more visible on your drive, your hike up and even at your elopement location.

Aside from a beautiful mountain setting, we are big fans of getting married at waterfalls this time of year, as they usually don’t require as much of a drive up  into the mountains where temperatures are a bit colder. There are so many beautiful Asheville waterfalls in the area and we can help you find the one that feels the most private and resonant to you!

April:

The average temperature is 54 degrees with possible highs in the 60’s. However, if you are getting married on a mountaintop such as Black Balsam Knob or somewhere on the Blue Ridge Parkway, the average temperature will likely be closer to 45 degrees. Although it is not particularly rainy, chances of precipitation hover around 33% daily during this time of year. Bringing a jacket and warm boots are highly recommended as most elopements take place close to sunset when temperatures fall below what is experienced mid-day.

The landscape is just starting to get green and more flowers are in bloom. It’s an incredible time of year for a mountain elopement!

May:

April showers bring May flowers and tons of weddings and elopements!

In Asheville, the average temperature is 62 degrees with highs in the 70’s and lows in the 50’s. This means it will likely be in the 50’s in the mountains and could possibly dip into the upper 40’s on a cold day or even lower, since elopements occur close to sunset time. In Asheville, the chance of a wet day over the course of May is very rapidly increasing, starting the month at a 34% possibility and ending it at 42% – learn more here.

Foliage is getting very green at this time and flowers should be in full bloom, making it the perfect time to marry in a field of flowers or on some of our favorite mountaintops on the Blue Ridge Parkway!
