Growing up in these wide, wondrous Blue Ridge mountains, it’s easy to fall in love with each season that visits, but just one perfectly captures the simplistic beauty of it all – winter. One of my favorite types of weather to admire this place is a misty, grey day with slow-moving fog hugging the bare mountains. It’s raw and authentic and feels true to us at Elope Outdoors. We seek out wild places for ourselves and for our couples because we love the unpredictable beauty of Mother Nature in all of her forms. This is the exact type of afternoon we got for John + Rachel’s elopement at Claxton Farm, a vast yet humble expanse of land nestled into a valley with the Blue Ridge mountains towering above you. 

 

John looked striking in his dark navy suit, and Rachel left us all swooning with her crisp, white long-sleeved dress from BHLDN paired with a hiking socks and boots combo. Together they radiated movie star vibes, and their style meshed perfectly with the wintry, moody backdrop of the mountains. Needless to say, the first look was something out of a movie, as John stood in awe of Rachel, twirling her around in the grass. This is one of the countless reasons I love elopements; the gift of time and the ability to pause, dance, embrace and just be in the moments that sometimes get overlooked or rushed through. 

 

John + Rachel shared a space filled with intimacy, joy and intention for their ceremony with our incredible officiant, Julia. There’s something so special and meaningful about taking time to really soak in each moment and feel them in your soul. We know this is one of the most important days of your life, and our gift to you is the permission to be present, to fill your lungs with the wild air, ground into the muddy earth, and fully embrace all the emotions and feelings that show up. 

 

A winter elopement in the Blue Ridge Mountains is truly one of a kind. There’s a peaceful stillness in the air, with only the occasional whisper of the wind moving through the trees, or the tumble of water down an icy creek. We believe that choosing to elope in the mountains is perfect for couples who are looking for simplicity, intimacy and deep connection to nature and each other.
