There are so many reasons couples choose to elope in the Blue Ridge Mountains, but Brennah and Cole’s story reminds us of one of our favorites: sometimes the perfect wedding destination is already home.

While many couples travel from across the country to get married in Western North Carolina, Brennah and Cole were already living their mountain dream in Asheville. After years of dreaming about moving to the mountains, they finally made the leap in May of 2024.
Asheville quickly became part of their story.
They spend their weekends hiking, camping, paddle boarding, exploring breweries, and soaking up everything that makes this area so special. The mountains were one of the biggest reasons they moved here, so when it came time to choose a place to get married, exchanging vows surrounded by sweeping Blue Ridge views felt like the perfect fit.
And what better place than Max Patch?
Late May is one of the most beautiful times of year on this beloved mountain bald. The hillsides are covered in fresh green grass, cheerful yellow wildflowers dot the landscape, and endless mountain views stretch in every direction. It feels peaceful, expansive, and wonderfully removed from the noise of everyday life.
As we got closer to their wedding day, however, the forecast had other ideas.
After an unusually dry spring, Western North Carolina suddenly found itself in the middle of a rainy week. We kept a close eye on the weather and ultimately decided to shift their timeline a little earlier in the day.
One of the best things about an intimate elopement is flexibility.
Because it was just the two of them, there was no complicated schedule to rearrange and no large group of guests to coordinate. We simply adjusted the timing and hoped for the best.
It worked perfectly.
A brief drizzle passed through as they arrived, but the skies cleared completely for their first look, ceremony, portraits, cake cutting, bubbly toast, and private first dance. Not a single part of their celebration was interrupted by weather. As they packed up and headed home, the rain began again.
It truly felt like the mountains had given them their own little window.
One detail we absolutely loved was how determined Brennah was to keep their first look a surprise. Since they were driving to Max Patch together, she hid in the backseat during the drive so Cole wouldn’t see her before the ceremony.
It’s actually one of the questions we hear most often from couples planning an elopement:
“How do we do a first look if we’re arriving together?”
As Brennah proved, sometimes the simplest solution is the best one.
When they finally saw each other for the first time that afternoon, all of the anticipation, excitement, and emotion of the day came rushing in.
And from that moment forward, they barely stopped smiling.

These two were absolutely adorable together. Throughout the entire afternoon they were laughing, stealing glances at one another, holding hands, and fully soaking in every moment. Their joy was contagious.
Their story began years earlier in their Wisconsin hometown, though they somehow never met while growing up. They attended different high schools, went to different colleges, and graduated at the same time with psychology degrees.
After graduation, Cole traveled to Japan to teach English while Brennah began working with teens facing mental health challenges. When Cole eventually returned home, Brennah’s aunt became convinced the two would be perfect together and set them up on a blind date.
She couldn’t have been more right.
Over the next seven years, they navigated long distance during graduate school, supported each other through major life transitions, built a life together in Minneapolis, and eventually followed their dream of moving to Asheville.
May became a recurring theme throughout their story.
They moved to Asheville in May.
Cole proposed in May.
And on a beautiful spring afternoon in May, they became husband and wife.
One of the things Brennah shared before the wedding was that she was most excited about having a day that felt completely focused on the two of them.
No pressure.
No distractions.
No expectations from anyone else.
Just the chance to exchange vows, celebrate their relationship, and be fully present together.
Watching their day unfold, it was clear they had created exactly that.

After their ceremony, they shared cake and bubbly overlooking the mountains, enjoyed a private first dance, and spent the evening exploring Max Patch together while Jen captured some truly beautiful portraits.

After falling in love with the wide-open landscapes and 360-degree views at Max Patch, Brennah and Cole knew it was the perfect place to exchange vows. It’s easy to see why this location continues to be one of our favorite spots for couples seeking a private mountain elopement near Asheville.
As Asheville locals, Brennah and Cole already knew how special these mountains are. While many couples travel here from across the country, they were fortunate enough to build their life together in one of the most beautiful places in the Southeast.

Later, Brennah sent us a note that perfectly summed up the experience:
“We just wanted to send a heartfelt thank you for everything you did to make our wedding day so special. From start to finish, we felt completely supported and cared for, and because of all your hard work, we were able to be fully present and enjoy every moment.
The day was truly the embodiment of everything we had hoped for—stress-free, meaningful, and so authentically us. Looking back, we honestly wouldn’t change a thing.”
Those words are exactly why we love what we do.

Brennah and Cole’s wedding wasn’t about a packed timeline, a long guest list, or elaborate details.
It was about two people who genuinely enjoy being together, choosing to begin their marriage in a place they love.
Congratulations, Brennah and Cole. Thank you for allowing us to be part of such a beautiful chapter in your story.
