Catawba Falls is one of the most loved waterfalls in the area. It’s located in Pisgah National Forest and offers a short, easy hike. The trail is about 1.5 miles and takes you through a beautiful forest filled with moss, trees, and smaller streams. Once you reach the falls, you’ll see a tall, wide cascade flowing down the rocks like lace. The sound of the water fills the air, making the whole area feel calm and magical. It’s a perfect place for couples who want a little adventure but don’t want a hard hike.
Note: This trail is sometimes closed for repairs. Don’t worry, our team will check ahead of time and suggest great backup spots if needed.
Tom’s Creek Falls is a true hidden gem. It’s not far from Marion, NC, and it’s one of the easiest hikes around. The trail is less than a mile long, mostly flat, and very peaceful. You’ll walk through the woods, cross a wooden bridge, and end up at a wide, quiet waterfall. The waterfall drops about 80 feet and flows into a shallow pool. You can even walk close to the base. It feels very private here, perfect for a quiet ceremony. We love this spot for morning elopements, when the light is soft and golden.
Moore Cove Falls has something extra special, it’s one of the few waterfalls you can walk behind. That’s right! Imagine standing behind a curtain of water as you share your vows. It’s a fun and beautiful experience. The trail to Moore Cove Falls is about three-quarters of a mile. It’s easy and family-friendly. The waterfall itself is tall and gentle, making it a great place for photos. We often suggest late-afternoon ceremonies here when the sun shines through the trees and lights up the water.
Looking Glass Falls is one of the most photographed waterfalls in North Carolina, and for good reason. It’s big, bold, and very easy to reach. You can see it from the road and walk right down to the base with no hiking required. Even though it’s well-known, we know the best times to visit when it’s quiet and perfect for a private moment. Early mornings are best. The light is soft, and the mist from the falls makes the whole area feel dreamy. If you’re looking for a wow-factor location without a hike, this is the one.

Douglas Falls is a peaceful and wild spot tucked deep into Pisgah National Forest. It’s located in the Big Ivy area, which feels like a hidden world all its own. The trail can be a little rugged, so it’s best for couples who want an adventure. The waterfall itself drops over a high rock ledge, surrounded by large boulders and thick trees. It feels quiet and untouched, perfect for couples who want a more natural and remote ceremony. Our team always checks the trail conditions before planning an elopement here. When it’s the right fit, it’s truly magical.
Love the idea of a waterfall elopement and wondering what time of day will feel most magical? Head over to our post on why a sunset ceremony might be the perfect choice for your Asheville elopement.

There’s no one “best” waterfall for everyone. The right spot depends on your style, comfort, and what kind of experience you want to have. Asheville’s hidden waterfalls each offer something a little different, so here are a few things to think about as you start dreaming up your perfect waterfall elopement:
Some waterfalls require only a short walk from the car, while others involve a moderate hike. Think about how much walking you and your guests are comfortable with, and whether you want a relaxed stroll or a light adventure.
If having a quiet, private moment is important to you, we’ll guide you to less-traveled locations or plan your ceremony for early morning or a weekday when it’s quieter.
Waterfall settings can change a lot depending on the light. Some glow in the golden hour, while others are best lit in the morning. We’ll help you choose the ideal time to catch the best light for photos and atmosphere.
Spring usually brings strong water flow and fresh green leaves. Summer offers lush surroundings and warmer temps. Fall gives you colorful trees, and winter brings a peaceful, bare beauty. Each season has its own magic, so consider the look and feel you love most.
Waterfalls are stunning, but rocks can be wet and trails uneven. We always scout locations ahead of time to make sure they’re safe for walking, standing, and taking photos in your chosen season.
Do you imagine something dramatic and bold, or soft and tucked away? Some waterfalls crash down cliffs, while others flow gently over mossy rocks. We’ll help match the setting to the feeling you want for your day.
No matter which waterfall you choose, the most important thing is that it feels right for you. With the right planning and a little help from our team, any of Asheville’s hidden waterfalls can become the perfect setting for a moment you’ll remember forever.
