“Let us dance in the sunshine, wearing wildflowers in our hair…”
~Susan Polis Schutz
Mountaintops, expansive views and hand-in-hand climbs were nothing new for Michaela and Nick when they arrived at Black Balsam Knob for their late summer mountaintop elopement. A year prior, one foggy October day, they had gotten engaged on a cliff walk in Ireland. The outdoors, lacing up their hiking boots and adventuring had always been a part of their lives and they knew a Blue Ridge Mountain Elopement was the perfect way to celebrate their most memorable adventure yet. Michaela and Nick shared before their big day that they were most looking forward to a care-free and intimate ceremony that they would always remember. With that end-of-summer warmth and the quintessential fog rolling through the sea of lush green forest, we hit the jackpot with this elopement. It was a day all of us would always remember.
We believe that life is too short to be in a hurry, which is why we take time to embrace each moment, whether planned or unexpected. The “first look” is undoubtedly one of the most magical moments of the entire experience, if you choose to have one, and we make sure to create a space for you to soak up every little bit of it. Michaela and Nick met in the spruce tree forest at the base of Black Balsam for a quiet and intimate first look. As Michaela gently walked towards Nick, with her bohemian-styled dress grazing the earth and flowers resting on top of her flowing curls, she looked absolutely radiant. The white of her crochet and lace dress popped with the deep brown and green backdrop of the spruce trees. They both took their time taking each other in, breathing in the invigorating smells of nature and the beautiful, still energy surrounding them.
Sharing the first look at the base of the mountain allows our couples to have their moment and hold hands as they climb the mountain together. This day, we paused to stay back a few steps and we were able to watch Nick and Michaela join hands, navigate these steps together and walk into this new journey. It’s beautifully symbolic, and exudes togetherness, something we love to foster in our elopements. Michaela and Nick were just this. They brought this closeness and radiance with them to the top of the mountain, where Michaela kicked off her shoes, grounded barefoot in the earth and they shared a simple yet significant ceremony.
The end of Summer is often a bittersweet moment for us sun and nature lovers, as we say goodbye to longer days, warm sunsets and the mountains bursting with life. It’s been said that August is like the Sunday of Summer – leaving us wondering have we explored enough? have we climbed and swam to our heart’s extent? have we admired all the sunsets we could? Working alongside this incredible team with Elope Outdoors, there’s no doubt that we’ve lived out some extraordinary summers, and we have our beautiful couples to thank. Michaela and Nick, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for sharing togetherness, simplicity and a deep love of nature. Congratulations on a lifetime of adventure and all the mountaintop magic that awaits you both!
